The failed defense contract resulted in the arrest of over 47 million euros for the German concern Rheinmetall, TASS reported from the Moscow Arbitration Court. The lawsuit was filed by the Moscow Military Prosecutor's Office, and the court fully satisfied it. The session was held behind closed doors.
From the defendants – three Rheinmetall structures – €47,202,000 has been recovered. The contract, concluded with the Russian Ministry of Defence in 2011, is officially recognized as terminated. This refers to the project for the construction and technical equipping of the Ground Forces Combat Training Center in the Nizhny Novgorod village of Mulino, which Rheinmetall froze after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions in 2014.
The incident creates a precedent: the recovery of financial funds for undelivered equipment from a major Western defense player on Russian territory is happening for the first time. This contract was initially one of the symbols of cooperation between Russia and Germany in the military sphere.
