The refund period for unused train tickets should be reduced to one or two days, the State Duma told TASS. Parliamentarians emphasized that the current 30-day period creates serious difficulties for passengers in emergency situations.
Deputies also criticized the dynamic tariff system, where the ticket price can increase several hours or even minutes before departure. According to them, a separate pricing policy is formed for each direction, train, and route section, which makes the cost unpredictable.
At the same time, they stated that they do not support the initiative of the FAS to allow carriers to independently set a refund fee of up to 10% of the ticket price, convinced that the commission should not be increased, but rather additional mechanisms to support passengers should be sought.
Currently, a passenger can wait for a refund for up to a month, which freezes funds at the most inconvenient time. The proposal to reduce this period to one or two days came amid FAS plans to give carriers more freedom in setting refund fees.
