Installation of four main pumping units for the technical water supply system has been completed at the second power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey. The equipment will provide seawater for cooling the turbine unit's condensers and will be one of the key elements of the heat removal system.
The installation was carried out as part of the construction of the second unit of the Akkuyu NPP. The installed centrifugal pumps are among the largest equipment of the coastal pumping station, which is responsible for the stable cooling of the turbine hall equipment.
Each unit is equipped with a 6500 kW electric motor. The pumping station design provides for equipment placement at different depths: the lower part of the pumps is located approximately 21 meters below ground level, and the motors are at a depth of minus 5 meters.
The total height of the pumping units is comparable to a five-story building. This placement reduces the impact of external factors and increases the reliability of the system, including protection against possible flooding.
The main pumps will ensure the circulation of seawater through the turbine condenser cooling system. Their operation is crucial for maintaining the required temperature conditions of the equipment and the uninterrupted operation of the turbogenerator after the power unit is commissioned.
