Tractors and combines in Yakutia are being converted to gas by order of local authorities

The Head of Yakutia, Aysen Nikolaev, instructed to gradually convert municipal and agricultural machinery to gas engine fuel in areas where the corresponding infrastructure has already been created. He noted that there is not much time left for summer work, and any interruptions in fuel supplies could have serious consequences for agriculture.

At the same time, the authorities demanded the prompt launch of a mechanism for uninterrupted fuel supply to agricultural producers, emphasizing that the terms of supply should not change for farmers.

The republic is already developing gas engine infrastructure: in Khangalassky Ulus, the first mobile gas refueler with a booster compressor in Yakutia was launched, allowing machinery to be refueled with methane directly at the points of operation. The unit is designed to operate at temperatures from -40 to +50 °C.

Earlier, industry experts interviewed by Vedomosti skeptically assessed the prospect of converting the fleet of trucks and agricultural machinery to gas engine fuel. As farmers noted, the infrastructure of the proper level is still not developed in the regions, and the gas engine fuel itself reduces engine life. Manufacturers also point out that when re-equipping machinery to run on gas, there is a significant drop in torque. According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, only 12.5 thousand units of compressed natural gas-powered machinery are operated in agriculture.
