Pay in Bali: Sberbank Launches QR Code Payment in Indonesia via its Own App

Russian tourists in Indonesia can now pay through the "Sberbank Online" application using the local QRIS QR code standard. According to RIA Novosti, citing the bank's press service, when scanning the code, the amount is automatically converted from Indonesian rupiah to rubles and displayed on the screen in both currencies.

QR payments are accepted at more than 40 million retail outlets across the country. Indonesia has become the 13th state where Sber clients can use this function. Previously, QR code payment became available in Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

For tourists, the main convenience is that there is no need to look for an exchange office or calculate the exchange rate in their heads. Scanning a QRIS QR code works the same way as in Russia, and the debiting occurs directly in rubles. The bank is consistently expanding its coverage in Southeast Asian countries, which account for a significant share of tourist traffic from the Russian Federation.
