4100 Meters Underground: INK Drills the Longest Horizontal Well in Russia

Russia has created the longest horizontal section of a well for onshore drilling – its length reached 4100 meters. The record-breaking facility was built by INK-Service company at the Bolshetirskoye license area in Eastern Siberia. The project took 90 days to complete.

The well belongs to the category of objects with an ultra-long reach. The ratio of the wellbore length to the vertical deviation was 4.3, and the drilling complexity level was estimated at 7.1 points according to the international classification system. This indicator corresponds to the most technologically complex projects implemented in global practice.

The horizontal section, 4.1 kilometers long, is comparable in length to several central streets of Irkutsk. For comparison, the new wellbore significantly exceeds the length of the previous Russian achievement – a horizontal section of 3680 meters, also performed by specialists of the INK group of companies.

The company noted that the new result is a continuation of many years of work on developing complex drilling technologies in Eastern Siberia. The previous record was surpassed less than six months after its establishment, which was the result of accumulated experience and the application of proprietary engineering solutions.

INK-Service played a key role in the project, having drilled almost 6.5 million meters of rock and built more than 1500 wells over 20 years of operation. The company attributes its success to a combination of the drilling team's experience, its own production of special lubricating additives, and the development of technological solutions for building complex horizontal wellbores.
