Staff numbers in Iran will begin to increase from mid-July

The management of Rosatom plans to increase the number of employees at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Iran. This was stated by the CEO of the state corporation, Alexey Likhachev.

Currently, there are 19 nuclear specialists and 1 female medical worker at the facility. They are demonstrating "miracles of courage" and continue to work, Likhachev emphasized.

If the situation does not worsen, we plan to start restoring the workforce from mid-July. In total, we evacuated more than 600 people.

The CEO of Rosatom added that the return of specialists will be organized in groups of 25-30 people.

In late February 2026, the conflict in the Middle East sharply escalated. Iran and Israel, with US support, began exchanging strikes. In March and early April, the Bushehr NPP was repeatedly shelled.

Due to the security threat, Rosatom evacuated the vast majority of its employees. Likhachev emphasized that the state corporation is not abandoning this project and will definitely return to it when the situation changes.
