Egypt for the first time showcased Russian S-300VM "Antey-2500" in service

The complex is presented as part of the country's updated long-range air defense system

Egypt has for the first time publicly displayed the S-300VM "Antey-2500" anti-aircraft missile system, integrated into the national air defense structure and designed to intercept a wide range of aerial threats – from combat aircraft to ballistic missiles.

The demonstration took place as part of an official event attended by the country's top military and state leadership, where the complex was presented as part of an updated long-range air defense system.

The S-300VM belongs to heavy mobile long-range interception systems and is a development of the S-300 family, adapted to counter high-speed and complex targets.

The complex is capable of tracking and engaging multiple targets simultaneously at a significant distance, including maneuvering aircraft, cruise missiles, and operational-tactical ballistic missiles. The system's operation is based on a multi-channel radar architecture, ensuring precise guidance in conditions of intense electronic countermeasures.

The anti-missile potential of the S-300VM is of particular importance. The system is capable of engaging ballistic targets at medium and long interception ranges, which places it beyond the scope of classical air defense and brings it closer to elements of tactical missile defense. The mobile chassis ensures rapid deployment and repositioning, reducing the complex's vulnerability to a potential retaliatory strike.

Deliveries of the S-300VM to Egypt have never been officially confirmed by either the Russian or Egyptian side. In 2014, relevant Russian agencies directly denied reports of a contract being signed and complexes being transferred, stating that no agreement existed at that time. It was also emphasized then that the information circulating in the media was not true.
