The Kalashnikov Concern has received a Rospatent patent for Russia's first fast-dissolving non-narcotic pain reliever in the form of sublingual strips, QuikMed. The development is intended to relieve severe and moderate pain – for deep wounds, bruises, fractures, dental and postoperative pain, as well as for oncological pain. The drug has already been tested at the front.
The lozenges are based on ketorolac. They are taken by placing them on the mucous membrane in the oral cavity: the active substance begins to enter the bloodstream upon first contact with saliva. Unlike tablets or capsules, the drug bypasses the gastrointestinal tract, which eliminates the risk of reflux and mucosal irritation.
According to the concern, the speed of therapeutic effect onset for the strips is 95% higher than for tablet forms and comparable to injection administration. The remedy can be used for first aid, during evacuation, or in a hospital.
