Cheap gasoline can cost more than repairs: the OP reminded who will pay for a damaged car

Amid increased attention to the situation in the fuel market, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation reminded: if a car was damaged due to low-quality gasoline, the car owner has the right to demand compensation for repair costs.

According to Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation's commission on public control and work with citizens' appeals, the seller of counterfeit fuel is liable for damages in accordance with Articles 15, 1064, 1095, and 1096 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. These norms provide for compensation for losses if a causal link is proven between the use of low-quality goods and the car's breakdown.

The expert also urged to refuse to buy fuel from private sellers, especially through online ads. According to him, if such offers are found, you can take a screenshot of the publication and send an appeal to the police. Additionally, it is permissible to contact the Ministry of Emergency Situations, since the storage, transportation, and sale of gasoline are activities with increased fire hazard.

The statement came against the backdrop of continued interest in alternative fuel purchasing channels. At the same time, Masharov emphasized that the Russian market is generally supplied with petroleum products, and the current difficulties are mainly related to the restructuring of logistics chains and, in his opinion, are temporary.

For car owners, the situation serves as a reminder: an attempt to save money on dubious fuel can lead to costly repairs of the engine, fuel system, or catalytic converter.
