Every 13th video game in the world is made in Russia: AKI data

Mobile puzzles bring in more than PC and console shooters combined

The Russian game development industry accounts for 7.3% of the global video game market. According to Gulnara Agamova, head of the Creative Industries Agency (AKI) of Moscow, as reported by TASS, out of approximately 85,000 releases annually, 6,200 are created in Russia.

At the same time, 98% of Russian games are indie projects from small studios. The genre specificity breaks global patterns: puzzles dominate mobile platforms, their share in mobile revenue reached 41%, while globally action games lead with 20%. Domestic mobile puzzles bring in about 19 billion rubles compared to 3 billion from PC and console shooters combined.

The Russian gaming industry focuses on original mechanics and cultural code – projects like "Tsarevna", Bylina, Slavania attract interest from publishers in Asia and Latin America. In addition to indie games, Russia is represented by global hits: War Thunder (Gaijin), Standoff 2 (Axlebolt), Atomic Heart (Mundfish), Escape from Tarkov, and CarX Drift Racing.
