The Kalashnikov Concern, together with a partner cartridge enterprise, is developing new ammunition designed to increase the penetrating power of small arms against modern personal protective equipment. This was stated by Maxim Strelkov, Deputy Chief Designer for Science, at the "Engineers of the Future" youth forum.
According to him, combat experience has shown that existing cartridges need to be more effective against new types of body armor. This requires a rethinking of the approach to the damaging effect of bullets. All work is carried out taking into account feedback from military personnel using weapons in real battles.
The concern already has successful developments in this area. Previously, 5.45 mm multi-bullet cartridges were presented, which showed high effectiveness against FPV drones: bullet segments hit engines, batteries, and electronic boards, disabling the drones. Now, a similar approach is being adapted to combat body armor. Developments are being carried out on an initiative basis and are in the active development stage.
Strelkov emphasized that the improvement of small arms and ammunition is constantly based on data received from soldiers. This allows for prompt adaptation of products to changing combat conditions.
