Training of external heavy drone pilots for civil aviation to be launched in Russia

The Aeromax Aviation Training Center (owned by Aeromax Group of Companies) will launch a training program for external pilots of heavy unmanned aerial vehicles weighing over 30 kg starting September 2026. This was announced by the press service of the group of companies.

The training center will be one of the first to train external operators of heavy UAVs for civil aviation. The program has already been approved by Rosaviatsiya.

What the training course will include:

  • air law
  • basics of aerodynamics
  • navigation
  • meteorology
  • digital services
  • practice on virtual simulators
  • practice on UAVs

The demand for qualified operators is growing in Russia, including for industry, logistics, and agriculture, said Oleg Serdyuk, director of the Aeromax center.

The transition from amateur drone control to performing real work in the country's economy creates new career paths for specialists and brings the drone market to a qualitatively new level of development.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive an aviation personnel certificate. Based on this document, the operator will be able to perform flights as part of the crew of unmanned aircraft systems.

From March 1, 2026, the presence of a certificate became mandatory for external operators controlling heavy drones from the ground. To obtain it, it is necessary to undergo training, pass a comprehensive exam, and also fly at least 50 hours.
