On September 1, the Sovetsky Polytechnic College of Yugra will launch a secondary vocational education program for computer game development, augmented and virtual reality. As Alexander Gomzyak, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, told TASS at the International IT Forum in Khanty-Mansiysk, the first intake will be 25 students, and the training period will be 3 years and 10 months.
The region views the gaming industry as a promising direction that combines personnel training, the development of digital competencies, and the creation of creative products.
Gomzyak noted that video games have become a full-fledged sector of the creative economy, which needs not only programmers but also designers, scriptwriters, and marketers. According to him, the training of such specialists should begin at an early age.
A special emphasis in the region is placed on promoting the cultural code through gaming products – games can serve as a tool to attract tourists and introduce them to the region.
