The share of banking operations with Mir cards reached 75%: Visa and Mastercard plastic cards are gradually being withdrawn from the market

Russian banks plan to complete the transition by 2030

Many Russian banks are gradually replacing international payment systems Visa and Mastercard with Mir cards. Some financial organizations plan to complete this work by 2030, which is confirmed by the results of a relevant survey.

Currently, the main card in the country is Mir, its share in the total volume of banking operations is 75%. At the same time, the National Payment Card System (NSPK) ensures the operation of Visa and Mastercard. The organization will reduce the interbank interchange fee for settlements made with them. In particular, in 2027 — to 1%, and from 2028 — to zero.

Sberbank stated that it is impossible to simultaneously replace issued Visa and Mastercard cards with Mir cards. The transition should be smooth.

T-Bank noted that currently about 15% of their clients use international payment system cards. At the same time, their share decreases every year.

Sovcombank clients have a similar number of Visa and Mastercard cards. The credit organization is working on measures to replace them with Mir cards.

VTB noted that the transition from international payment system cards "is organic." In 2025, about a third of the plastic volume was replaced with Mir cards, they summarized.
