Volga turned out to be cheaper than the original: sales of localized models based on Geely started in Russia

The sedan and two crossovers of the Russian brand entered the market with prices lower than their Chinese counterparts and a five-year warranty

The Russian brand Volga has officially started sales of three models at once – the C50 sedan and the K40 and K50 crossovers. All cars are produced at the plant in Nizhny Novgorod and are based on Geely models, but have received their own positioning, local adaptation, and more attractive prices.

The most notable feature of the new products was their cost. Thus, the Volga C50 sedan is offered at a price starting from 2.9 million rubles, while the comparable Geely Preface costs from 3.33 million rubles without marketing discounts. The car is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 150 or 200 hp and a seven-speed robotic gearbox.

The mid-size Volga K40 crossover also turned out to be more affordable than the original Geely Atlas model. The Russian version costs from 2.75 million rubles against 3.45 million rubles for the Chinese analogue. Buyers have access to two power units: a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 147 hp with a robotic transmission or a 2.0-liter engine with 200 hp with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

The flagship Volga K50, based on the Geely Monjaro, went on sale at a price starting from 4.2 million rubles. For comparison, the cost of the original model starts from 4.6 million rubles. The crossover is equipped with a 238-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and an all-wheel drive system.

All cars received an extended winter package, including heated front and rear seats, steering wheel, windshield, and windshield washer nozzles. The manufacturer also provides a five-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty.

The long-term strategy of the project is of particular interest. The company stated that localized models are an intermediate stage, and in the future, the Volga brand plans to form a completely original line of cars of its own design. If these plans are implemented, the project may move from adapting foreign platforms to creating independent engineering solutions.
