Algeria Returns MiG-25 to the Sky Despite Su-57 Purchases

The republic's armed forces have about 40 Soviet fighters

The Algerian Air Force continues to maintain Soviet MiG-25 fighters in flying condition, despite purchasing 5th-generation Su-57 combat aircraft from Russia. The interceptors were spotted at Laghouat Air Base.

Algeria began receiving MiG-25s in the 1970s, with the total fleet estimated at 40 units.

They were sometimes used as reconnaissance aircraft with a payload capacity of up to five tons. The combat aircraft could accelerate to 3000 km/h and climb to an altitude of 23 km.

In November 2025, Vadim Badekha, head of the United Aircraft Corporation, stated that two multi-role Su-57E fighters had already been delivered to a foreign customer.

According to the Telegram channel "Russkoye Oruzhiye", this referred specifically to the Algerian Air Force, although deliveries have not yet been officially announced.
