Children's access to scooter rentals in Russia is being massively blocked

Transferring a profile to a minor can result in a fine of up to 100,000 rubles

Since the beginning of the 2026 season, "Yandex Go" has identified over 140,000 accounts that need to confirm their age to rent scooters. After verification, their access to the service was restricted. This refers to cases where the system may have detected signs that a child or teenager is using the scooter.

For this purpose, the service uses photo control technology. The algorithm analyzes user behavior, including violations such as improper parking and crossing a pedestrian crossing without dismounting.

Verification can also be initiated after citizens' complaints. For example, if people send photos or videos of a scooter being given to a minor.

To confirm identity, the user needs to upload a selfie and a photo of their passport. The company says this takes about a minute.

A total of 143,000 verifications were assigned. Of these, 112,000 users have not yet provided documents. Another 31,000 uploaded data: 23,000 people could not confirm adulthood and lost access to rentals, while 8,000 successfully passed verification.

Most verifications were assigned in Moscow — 31,000. St. Petersburg is in second place with 17,000.

"Yandex Go" also reported that the service has already blocked 25,000 attempts by minors to rent scooters through Mos ID authorization. Transferring an account to a person under 18 years of age carries a fine of up to 100,000 rubles.
