Will Protect the Black Sea: Unmanned Boat "Skorpena-1" for Fire Support Patented in Crimea

Marine drone from KIPU engineers capable of carrying missiles

Employees of the Scientific and Production Center (SPC) of Engineering Technologies of the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University (KIPU) have developed a marine unmanned fire support boat (BEC) "Skorpena-1". The patent for the product has already been obtained, said the head of the center, Ervin Umerov.

This is an unmanned boat with powerful weaponry, including missiles, which has sufficient speed to intercept marine drones.

Several Crimean universities with appropriate technical facilities and testing grounds will be involved in creating the BEC prototype. A demonstration model is currently ready, Umerov added.

Preliminary characteristics of the "Skorpena-1" marine drone:

  • Length — 2 m
  • Armament — large-caliber machine gun and missiles
  • The hull will be made with a "shark skin" microrelief to reduce water resistance at speed

The development is intended for fire support, destruction of strongholds on the shore, and interception of high-speed surface drones.

The SPC of Engineering Technologies at KIPU was opened in July 2024. Its goal is applied research in mechanical engineering and the integration of scientific developments into production.
