Telegram's Cryptocurrency Returns to its Roots: TON Token Renamed to Gram

Users urged not to trust offers to "exchange" tokens

The TON cryptocurrency asset has been renamed to Gram following a community referendum. As reported on the TON Vote platform, 81.22% of token holders supported the decision. The new name comes into effect on June 15, 2026, with a full update of information on exchanges and ecosystem projects expected by June 22. The Open Network blockchain will retain its current name.

The technical side of the rebranding will not affect users. Balances, addresses, smart contracts, non-fungible tokens, and positions in DeFi protocols will remain unchanged. No migration or exchange actions are required from holders. During the transition period, exchanges will display the asset as "Gram (formerly Toncoin)".

In an official announcement, the developers warned about fraudulent schemes urging users to "migrate" or "exchange" tokens and recommended ignoring such offers.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov called the change a "return to the roots." Gram was the original name of the project's cryptocurrency, appearing in the first version of the White Paper even before the launch of the Telegram Open Network.
