Payout in 3.5 minutes: Sber accelerates life insurance with AI

The algorithm independently verifies documents and makes decisions

Sber has implemented an AI agent for automatic document analysis and claims settlement in life insurance. The algorithm operates 24/7 and independently makes decisions regarding payouts within credit life insurance. Currently, about 25% of such cases are closed within five minutes, with a median time of 3.5 minutes.

Igor Kobzar, Vice President of Sberbank and CEO of SberStrakhovanie Zhizni, announced this at SPIEF-2026. According to him, by the end of the year, they plan to increase the share of fast payouts to 50%. The company believes that the speed of settlement largely shapes the client's impression of the insurance company.

The AI agent we implemented analyzes documents and makes payout decisions independently. Importantly, it operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Kobzar noted that artificial intelligence is changing not only payouts but also the insurance model itself. According to him, the market is gradually moving away from a reactive approach, where the company gets involved only after a risk occurs, to preventive insurance. AI can analyze data on health, lifestyle, and human activity to personalize tariffs and proactively reduce the likelihood of an insured event.

The impact of AI on the insurance industry is enormous; we don't even fully understand the scale of changes that lie ahead.

He named the use of data from wearable devices — smart bracelets, rings, and other gadgets — as one of the future scenarios. Such data, Kobzar emphasizes, can only be transmitted to the insurer with the client's consent. This will allow for more flexible tariffs: a healthy lifestyle can reduce the cost of protection, while an increase in personal risks can, conversely, increase it.

SberStrakhovanie Zhizni is already testing preventive products. For affluent clients, a medical advisor is available to help monitor nutrition, sleep, skin, and other health indicators. For a wider audience, regular medical examinations and non-invasive screening via phone camera are provided: in less than a minute, the system assesses health status across several parameters and, if necessary, suggests consulting a doctor.
