Head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev names Russia's main advantage in AI

This feature of Russia can attract not only China, but also other countries that lack the capacity to develop neural networks

Russia has the cheapest energy in the world for data centers and, thanks to this, can become one of the leaders in the field of artificial intelligence. This was stated by the head of RDIF, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, Kirill Dmitriev.

According to Dmitriev, Russia's energy advantages may be of interest not only to China. There is also potential interest from other countries, as today almost all states seek to develop their own artificial intelligence technologies.

At the same time, many countries face energy constraints. AI operation and training require powerful computing centers that consume a lot of electricity.

Dmitriev believes that in such conditions, Russia can take a leading position by offering other countries access to cheaper energy for data center operations and AI development.

According to various estimates, about 200 data centers operate in Russia. The turnover of the domestic commercial data center market at the end of 2025 was estimated at approximately 148 billion rubles, which is 14% more than the previous year's result.

Most of the commercial infrastructure is concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but demand is growing rapidly due to the development of cloud services and artificial intelligence.
