Dependence on foreign digital platforms and software can turn into serious risks for businesses and users. This was stated by Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the SPIEF 2026.
According to the president, foreign services often win due to convenience and a developed ecosystem, but over time, users face the consequences of technological dependence.
Foreign services may initially be convenient, but later the price of this dependence will inevitably manifest itself. Russia has already learned this lesson.
Examples cited included cases of software providers leaving the Russian market, restrictions on access to certain digital products, and the blocking of international payment mechanisms. These events stimulated the accelerated development of domestic technologies and infrastructure platforms.
This is not just about software. Today, critical digital infrastructure includes cloud platforms, payment systems, cybersecurity tools, corporate operating systems, databases, and data storage services. If key elements of such infrastructure are under external control, risks arise not only for individual companies but also for entire sectors of the economy.
That is why Russian developers have been actively increasing the production of domestic software, server solutions, virtualization platforms, and information security systems in recent years. At the same time, the demand for local cloud services and corporate digital ecosystems is growing.
The main question now is not only about creating our own technologies but also about their competitiveness. For users, it is critically important that domestic services provide not only independence but also a level of convenience, performance, and reliability comparable to global counterparts.
