The Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy named after Kalinin (MBAA) has developed a new active protection system for equipment and stationary objects against attacks from the upper hemisphere – including drones, loitering munitions, and drone swarms. Documents for the development were published in the Rospatent database.
The main feature of the complex is the combination of optical detection means with a radar system for continuous monitoring of the space above the object.
The development should remain effective even in smoke, fog, precipitation, and when smoke screens are deployed, where conventional optical systems sharply lose their target detection capabilities.
For this purpose, engineers integrated phase radio rangefinders directly between the barrels of the launch container. The antennas form a constant radar field and control the entire upper hemisphere without mechanical scanning.
The authors of the development claim that during modeling, the probability of protecting an object reached 80% even when several drones attacked simultaneously. The test configuration used 21 launch barrels and 63 protective munitions.
