Zagorsk HPP-2 is being prepared for launch after the accident

RusHydro completes strengthening the building and finishes construction of the station's lower reservoir

Stabilization of the foundation of the Zagorsk HPP-2 building and construction of the lower reservoir facilities are nearing completion after the accident. RusHydro is carrying out the work as part of preparing the facility for commissioning, which is still scheduled for 2028.

The company reported that the strengthening of the building's foundation continues at the station site by injecting a special compound, which should provide the necessary bearing capacity of the structures. At the same time, specialists are completing the construction of the lower reservoir facilities and have already inspected the main and auxiliary equipment of the station.

RusHydro clarified that the project completion dates remain unchanged. Zagorsk HPP-2 is being built next to the operating Zagorsk HPP and will effectively become the second stage of the pumped-storage hydroelectric complex.

The decision to restore the station was made after a long site preparation. Earlier, the first deputy general director of the company, Nikolay Karpukhin, reported that the completion of construction was planned to begin after the work on leveling the building was finished.

Construction of Zagorsk HPP-2 with a capacity of 840 MW in the Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region began back in 2007. Initially, the station was supposed to be launched in 2014, but in 2013, the facility was partially flooded after an accident, which effectively forced the project to be restarted.
