From Cannon to Drones: New 30-mm Artillery Appears in Russia

Targeting is done using AI technology

Russia has developed a completely new 30-mm anti-aircraft artillery system for combating drones. The system received its own radar station, advanced optics, and artificial intelligence.

The combination of radar and thermal-television system allows the installation to operate at any time of day and in any weather, without fear of darkness, smoke, or fog.

The system's characteristics have not yet been disclosed. However, it is already clear that it is cheaper than traditional anti-aircraft defense systems.

One shot of a 30-mm shell costs much less than an anti-aircraft missile. Even if several shells may be required to hit one drone, the savings remain enormous.

Dmitry Kuzyakin, General Designer of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions, noted that Russia is the only country in the world to have developed a multi-level echeloned air defense system with an end-to-end targeting and control system.
