Criminals can gain access to smart home devices through router vulnerabilities or by guessing the Wi-Fi network password. This was stated by F6 cybersecurity expert Sergey Zolotukhin.
A modern home is permeated with digital technology through and through. Any smart device can be hacked — be it a refrigerator, a vacuum cleaner, an air conditioner, or a smart speaker.
By gaining access to the Wi-Fi network, attackers can connect to all devices. At the same time, the homeowner will not even know about the hack, Zolotukhin noted.
Gadgets with cameras and microphones pose a particular danger, as they can "hear" and "see" what is happening. Criminals usually use the obtained data for blackmail or manipulation, the expert warned.
User security directly depends on their level of cyber literacy, Zolotukhin added. He urged people to observe digital hygiene and be responsible with smart devices.
