One Missile - A Whole Strategy: Expert Discusses Potential of New Sarmat ICBM

Igor Korotchenko: RS-28 is a Means of Retaliatory and Counter-Retaliatory Strike

Military analyst Igor Korotchenko assessed the capabilities of Russia's Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, stating that its characteristics allow the system to be considered a means of strategic nuclear deterrence, including retaliatory strike scenarios.

The missile's capabilities allow it to be considered a means of retaliatory and counter-retaliatory strike, as just one missile is enough to completely destroy adversary countries such as, for example, Great Britain or France.

The expert noted that the missile can carry more than ten high-yield nuclear warheads and is equipped with means to overcome missile defense.

Korotchenko emphasized that the flight range and possible trajectories allow the complex to be used on intercontinental routes, including bypass routes through polar regions. He linked these characteristics to the tasks of increasing the resilience of strategic forces to interception.

The military expert added that Sarmat is a liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile designed for deployment in silo launchers and represents the latest generation of Russian heavy-class strategic missiles. He also noted that the missile will be integrated into the Strategic Missile Forces.

On Tuesday, Sergey Karakaev, commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about the successful testing of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Russian Armed Forces plan to put the first regiment equipped with this missile on combat duty by the end of this year.

Earlier, "Perviy Tekhnicheskiy" reported that, according to military expert Alexander Stepanov of the Institute of Law and National Security of RANEPA, the Oreshnik missile system acts as a support weapon in conjunction with Sarmat.
