"For a Century Ahead": Russia Proposed a Powerful Nuclear Power Plant Project to Armenia

Russian Foreign Ministry: A Large Nuclear Power Plant Could Reduce Electricity Tariffs and Accelerate Industrial Growth

Russia has proposed a project for a powerful nuclear power plant to Armenia, which could cover the country's energy needs for many decades to come. This was stated by Mikhail Kalugin, Director of the Fourth Department of CIS Countries at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rosatom State Corporation offered Armenia a project for a high-capacity nuclear power plant. Kalugin noted that with the support of the Armenian leadership, such a station could provide the republic with energy "for decades, or even a century ahead."

He emphasized that this is not only about stable energy supply but also about reducing electricity costs for end consumers. According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, cheaper tariffs could further stimulate the country's industrial development.

Russia is ready to share its experience and technologies in nuclear energy with Armenia, as well as developments in the field of digitalization, Kalugin added.

He noted that Moscow aims for joint cooperation with Yerevan and recalled that this model of interaction is embedded in the associations where both countries participate, including the EAEU, CIS, and CSTO.
