"Bushehr" Awaits: Construction of New Nuclear Power Plant Units in Iran to Resume Immediately After Calm

The project remains a priority for the state corporation

The construction of the second and third power units of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will continue immediately after the stabilization of the military-political situation in Iran. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, announced Rosatom's readiness to resume work and return personnel to the site.

Russian specialists were involved in the construction of new power units at Iran's only operating nuclear power plant. Work was suspended after the start of the US and Israeli military operation. On April 20, the evacuation of 632 employees of the state corporation was completed. According to the diplomat, the return of personnel will happen as soon as possible, as soon as the situation on site allows.

Rosatom confirmed: the project remains a priority, technical obligations to the Iranian side will be fulfilled. After the team returns, they will continue equipment installation, pipeline welding, and commissioning. The completion dates for the units will be adjusted to account for the forced interruption.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is a key object of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the nuclear field. The first power unit of the station, built with the participation of Rosatom, has been operating since 2011 and provides electricity to the southern regions of Iran.
