The heavy flamethrower system TOS-2 "Tochka" carried out combat operations to destroy a fortified point. The wheeled chassis vehicle covertly took up a firing position under the cover of darkness and launched a salvo of 220-mm thermobaric shells at a range of up to 20 kilometers. Upon impact, temperatures of several thousand degrees and overpressure destroyed all living things in the enemy positions.
The TOS-2 is equipped with 18 launchers for rockets with a thermobaric warhead. Unlike the tracked TOS-1A, the wheeled chassis with increased cross-country capability provides higher cruising speed and reduces deployment and redeployment time at the position. The digital fire control system automates targeting and minimizes calculation errors.
Combat operations were conducted at night to reduce visibility. After the salvo, the vehicle immediately left the firing position, without entering the zone of retaliatory destruction. The precise hit allowed motorized rifle assault groups to capture the stronghold without losses and clear it.
