Belarusian T-72BM2 tanks found unprepared for drones

Combat vehicles were not equipped with "mangals", stern protection remained limited

New modernized T-72BM2 tanks have entered the Belarusian armed forces. They were equipped with advanced sights and electronics, but were not provided with full protection against kamikaze drones, reported the Telegram channel "Russkoye Oruzhie".

The commander of a separate Guards mechanized brigade, Colonel Vadim Ilnitsky, expressed satisfaction with the arrival of new combat vehicles, noting that they fully meet the requirements of modern combined arms tactics.

The modernization includes the installation of the "Sosna-U" complex, developed by "Peleng", as well as updated communication systems and an enhanced power plant.

However, in light of the experience of modern conflicts, questions arose about the vehicles. The tank remains vulnerable to drone strikes and anti-tank weapons, and the protection of a number of areas – including the upper projection and the stern – remains limited, noted the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST).

The tank hulls also lack standard solutions against FPV drones, which have become one of the main factors in armored vehicle losses.
