Russian armored vehicles surpass German ones in some characteristics, including firepower, level of protection, and mobility. This was stated by an expert from the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (TsAMTO).
T-90 tanks of the new modifications (T-90M) are 15-20 tons lighter than their Western counterparts, while possessing more powerful and effective armor protection.
The T-90M "Proryv" is armed with a 125 mm gun, while the Leopard has a 120 mm or 105 mm gun. The Russian tank also received all-aspect protection, a powerful engine, and a reliable transmission, making it difficult to hit.
The TsAMTO expert added that the Leopard 2 is inferior to the T-90M "Proryv" in cross-country capability. The German tank cannot move over wet soil. In addition, the Leopard does not have as wide a range of ammunition as the Russian one. This makes it possible to engage targets effectively.
Reserve for modernization
In terms of its layout, the T-90M is the most advanced tank in the world. Its chassis is universal.
The expert recalled that many other combat and support vehicles are produced on the basis of the T-90, including UBIM, IMR-3M, BMR-3M, BREM-1M, BMPT, TOS-1A, "Solntsepyok". The chassis has an "enormous reserve for modernization," he emphasized.
Since 2022, hundreds of changes have been made to the T-90 design. Now all vehicles are equipped with "barbecues" for protection against drones, signature-reduction means, and EW systems, the analyst concluded.
