Engineers Reveal Technical Features of the "Rostselmash 2400" Tractor's Mechanical Transmission

Full manual control and fuel economy are the main advantages of the new gearbox

Rostselmash engineers explained the advantages and how the mechanical transmission of the "Rostselmash 2400" tractor works. The company published technical data of the standard gearbox: 12 forward and 4 reverse gears, three ranges and full synchronization of all stages.

The 12×4 mechanical transmission is included in the basic configuration of the model. Each of the three ranges has 4 synchronized gears, which ensures smooth shifting without stopping. The gear ratios are selected for the working speed range of 4.8–16 km/h — it is in this range that the tractor shows maximum performance when plowing, sowing and transporting.

The designers focused on proven mechanics without electronic control units. The solution simplifies maintenance, increases the reliability of the unit and gives the operator full manual control in all conditions. Direct transmission of torque to the wheels reduces power loss and improves traction on dense soils.

Fuel consumption is reduced due to the engine running at reduced speeds — the range from 1600 to 1900 rpm is considered the most efficient. With partial load, for example, when using machines with a smaller working width, diesel consumption is further reduced. According to the plant, this method allows reducing the cost of fuel and lubricants by up to 15% compared to full load modes.

The simple design of the gearbox reduces the number of potential failure points and reduces the cost of repair. The operator switches speeds mechanically, without delays for the reaction of electronics. This is especially important when working on uneven terrain and in dusty conditions, where complex systems are more likely to fail.

Rostselmash emphasized that the 12×4 mechanical transmission is a balance between performance, efficiency and maintainability.
