Rostelecom is building a 100 MW data center for 100 billion rubles at the level of global giants

The project may pay off in 5-10 years

Rostelecom plans to build a data center with a capacity of 100 MW with investments of about 100 billion rubles. The project is under development and is focused on the level of the world's largest data centers.

According to the company's president, Mikhail Oseevsky, the growth in market requirements makes the previous parameters insufficient for modern tasks.

The last large data center that we built, together with server equipment, cost 40 billion rubles, it had an electrical capacity of 40 MW.

David Martirosov, CEO of RTK-DC, clarified that the project is still being worked out in detail. Among the key factors in choosing a site are access to energy resources, the possibility of own generation, logistics and security requirements.

The payback period of the center may be from 5 to 10 years, depending on the business model. If you focus on cloud services, investments may return faster, with classic capacity rental - in the longer term. The attraction of external financing, including closed funds, is not excluded.
