Diesel is back: it became known what has changed and when the UAZ "Patriot" 2026 model year will be released

The main innovations are a six-speed gearbox, a Russian steering wheel and a 136-horsepower engine

UAZ engineers are completing large-scale tests of the modernized "Patriot". The cars will have to travel 100 thousand kilometers on off-road and in difficult climatic zones - this is how the manufacturer checks the reliability of new units before launching into the series. The premiere is scheduled for the end of summer, and the novelty will appear at dealers by September 2026.

The main event is the return of diesel. Since 2016, the "Patriot" has managed without a version on heavy fuel, but now a two-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 136 hp and a torque of 320 N·m will return to the line.

The engine works in tandem with a new six-speed manual gearbox, which replaced the outdated five-speed one. A similar "mechanics" went to the gasoline version with a 2.7-liter ZMZ Pro engine (150 hp, 235 N·m). Both transmissions are based on JAC solutions and localized in Russia. In the future, engineers are considering installing a hydromechanical automatic, but the timing of its appearance has not yet been announced.

Externally, the updated "Patriot" will be distinguished by modernized LED optics. A new steering wheel on a magnesium frame of Russian production will be installed in the cabin. The multimedia system will retain support for Bluetooth and telephone communication; the issue of integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remains open - there is no official confirmation from the plant yet.
