During a visit of a delegation from the Naberezhnye Chelny Institute of KFU to the Scientific and Technical Center of KamAZ, a truck was caught in the lens, which may mark the beginning of the military line of the K5 generation. A car with a khaki-colored cab and a 6×6 wheel arrangement has not yet been encountered in civilian news — previously, the K5 family was positioned as purely civilian (heavy-duty trucks, dump trucks and construction chassis).
The appearance of an all-wheel drive three-axle version in protective coloring suggests that KamAZ is preparing a new generation of army trucks to replace the legendary "rocket carriers" KamAZ-5350 (Mustang family). The K5 features a fundamentally new cab with improved ergonomics, modern electronics and more powerful engines, which makes it an ideal base for mounting weapons, communication systems and personal protection.
The gross weight of such a vehicle is likely to be from 20 to 30 tons. It is expected that the truck will be equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder diesel KamAZ-910.10 (Euro-5) with a capacity of about 400 hp, which is aggregated with a 16-speed manual gearbox (instead of 9-speed in the "Mustang") and a two-range transfer case. Wheel arrangement — 6×6 with lockable inter-wheel differentials. The carrying capacity can reach 10–12 tons, the cab is all-metal, without a sleeping compartment, with the possibility of installing armor protection.
The appearance of such a car in khaki color means that KamAZ is ready to offer the Ministry of Defense a modern replacement for the aging fleet of trucks, combining proven cross-country ability with the comfort and technology of the new K5 cab.
