15 New "Ermaks" Strengthen the Fleet of the Krasnoyarsk Railway

The Krasnoyarsk Railway has received a new batch of freight electric locomotives. 15 units of the 3ES5K "Ermak" model have been added to the fleet of the Russian Railways branch.

The locomotives are specially designed for operation on the railways of the Eastern Polygon, which are characterized by difficult terrain. The electric locomotives are stationed at the Bogotol depot and are used to transport trains of increased weight of 7.1 thousand tons, as well as super-heavy combined trains weighing more than 12 thousand tons, along the Trans-Siberian Railway.

This technology makes it possible to significantly increase the volume of freight traffic without increasing the number of trains. As a result, the throughput and carrying capacity of key highways that start with the Krasnoyarsk Railway are increasing.

Over the past eight years, more than 500 new Ermak electric locomotives have arrived at the Krasnoyarsk line. They replaced the outdated VL-series locomotives. Currently, the road's fleet has been updated by more than 70 percent.

The Krasnoyarsk Railway runs through the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia, Kemerovo and Irkutsk Regions. The length of the tracks is 3.2 thousand kilometers.
