A New Rusak K-8 All-Terrain Vehicle Unveiled in Russia

A Nizhny Novgorod company has produced a 17-seat floating amphibious vehicle with panoramic windows and sleeping berths

The Nizhny Novgorod company Rusak has unveiled a new eight-wheeled K-8 all-terrain vehicle, created specifically for extreme tourism. The vehicle was assembled in the city of Bogorodsk as a custom order for operation in harsh climate zones, including the regions of the Far North.

The all-terrain vehicle is designed to carry seventeen passengers. On land, the vehicle can take up to three and a half tonnes of cargo, and on water up to one and a half tonnes. The designers retained the proven technical base: all-wheel drive, an 8×8 wheel configuration, independent suspension on all wheels, and locking inter-axle and inter-wheel differentials. Thanks to its sealed body and water-jet propulsion unit, the vehicle performs confidently afloat.

The main difference in the new version is the enlarged side windows. This is how the engineers solved the visibility issue: tourists will be able to observe the northern lights, taiga, or tundra right from the cabin. Inside, it has become quieter and more comfortable: the floor is covered with hard-wearing carpet, the seats have improved support, and when necessary the sofas fold out into full sleeping berths. This makes it possible to use the all-terrain vehicle on multi-day expeditions without installing additional equipment.

Each vehicle is assembled by hand to match the customer’s requirements. At Rusak, they note that demand for specialized transport for Arctic and adventure tourism is growing, so the company continues to develop its line of high-mobility floating all-terrain vehicles.

The new K-8 is already ready for testing and shipment. It is expected that the vehicle will find use in tourism clusters of the Murmansk Region, Yakutia, Kamchatka, and other regions with hard-to-reach infrastructure.
