The Izhevsk Mechanical Plant announced an important date in the history of the enterprise. The classic over-and-under hunting rifle MR-27 turned 55 years old. It all started on March 25, 1971, when the director of the plant, Nikolai Palladin, signed an order to launch the model into serial production. At that time, the weapon bore the index IZH-27 and was produced as part of the Kalashnikov concern.
The designers took the IZH-12 rifle as a basis and deeply reworked it. The engineers changed the shape of the receiver, stock, and forend. The masters also installed a ventilated sighting rib and added an automatic safety. The updated model quickly became popular with hunters. Over the decades of production, a whole family of weapons for amateur and commercial hunting has been created on the basis of the IZH-27.
Production has not stopped even now. The company produces several modifications with different barrel lengths. The buyer can choose a version with fixed chokes or interchangeable nozzles. The stock is made of various materials. There are even specialized rifles for sporting.
According to some reports, the MR-27 has become one of the most massive smoothbore rifles of the 12th caliber. It is actively used by the Russian military to combat small drones. During the serial production, IMZ assembled over 2,100,000 units of this equipment. The weapon is valued for its reliability and durability, which is confirmed by all new generations of hunters.
