Pet products are now sold on trains: after the story with the cat Twix, Russian Railways continues to change the rules

Blankets, carriers and toys for animals have appeared in long-distance trains

Pet products, from blankets to carriers and toys, have begun to be sold on Russian Railways trains. After the high-profile story with the cat Twix, which caused a wide resonance, the company continues to revise its approach to transporting animals. Now the changes are becoming noticeable not only in the rules, but also in the details.

We are talking about long-distance trains. Passengers traveling with animals now have access to soft microfiber blankets, carrier bags, leashes, toys and treats for dogs and cats.

We are expanding the range of useful products on the way — a new section for pets has appeared in the "Products on the Road" catalog on long-distance trains

The changes began after the high-profile case with the cat Twix. Then the animal, which got out of the carrier on the train along the Yekaterinburg — St. Petersburg route, was mistaken by the conductor for a stray and released at the station in Kirov. Later the cat was found dead. This story caused a wide public outcry.

Deputy General Director of the company Ivan Kolesnikov then spoke about the need to personalize transportation in order to understand exactly which animal is on the train.

One of the key changes concerned the accounting of pets. Now information about the animal should be displayed in the mobile devices of conductors. This helps to accurately understand who is traveling in the carriage and reduce the risk of errors.

At the same time, the type of animal is also indicated. The conductor will be able to check this data and know in advance which pets are on the train.

Also, conductors are strictly prohibited from disembarking animals from the train. If an ownerless pet is found in the carriage, it must be handed over to employees at the stop with a mandatory call to animal welfare organizations.
