The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a new fraud scheme: fake bots posing as housing and communal services steal accounts

After receiving the code, the attackers take possession of the victim's account

Attackers are sending alarming messages to Russians on behalf of housing and communal services. They talk about alleged discrepancies in accounting and offer to urgently check the balance, the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

Attackers send out alarming notifications, for example: "Discrepancies have been recorded in the unified accounting database for your address. We recommend checking the current balance for services in order to avoid restrictions."

By clicking on the link, a person ends up on a fake page that redirects him to a chat with a fraudulent bot. The bot presents itself as an official service, requests a phone number, and then a code from an SMS. As soon as the user enters it, the fraudsters get full access to his account.

The police emphasize that real notifications from housing and communal services come only through official channels and only with the consent of the user. Any messages with a demand for urgent action and links should be suspicious.
