Mobile Internet in the Moscow Region Experiencing Interruptions - What You Need to Know

The measures are temporary and aimed at ensuring security in conditions of increased threat, including the risk of attacks from UAVs

Residents of the Moscow region have been officially warned about possible disruptions in the operation of mobile internet and cellular communications. This was announced by Maxim Korkin, Chairman of the Committee of the Moscow Regional Duma on Transport and Road Complex and Information Technologies. According to him, temporary difficulties arise due to security measures taken at the federal level to protect the country's infrastructure.

The restrictions apply to data transmission via mobile networks. At the same time, wired internet and home Wi-Fi continue to work without changes. Authorities explain that the measures are temporary and related to the need to ensure security during periods of increased threat, including the risk of drone attacks.

Even with the mobile internet turned off, users in the Moscow region will retain access to socially significant services. This list includes the mobile application of the regional public services portal, the healthcare portal of the Moscow region, the unified authentication and authorization system, as well as the "Housing and Utilities Sector-Kontur" platform for monitoring communal infrastructure.

Separately, the operation of emergency services is ensured: the mobile application "System 112", the video chat of this application, and the server part of the video communication remain available for calling for help. These resources are included in the "white list" and function independently of restrictions on mobile traffic.

For stable access to the network, experts recommend switching to Wi-Fi where possible. Smartphone owners can use VoWiFi technology — it allows you to make calls and send messages over a wireless network even with a weak signal from a cell tower.

As a reminder, since the beginning of March 2026, residents of Moscow have begun to experience problems with the operation of the internet and mobile communications. As of March 13, the restrictions affected about 40 districts of the city, which is approximately one-third of its territory. "White lists" of sites have begun to operate in the capital, access to which is maintained during mobile internet shutdowns. The list includes social networks, banks, stores, media, public services, and other services.
