The "Oreshnik" missile has found a new role: it will become a threat to aircraft carriers

Sergey Marzhetsky: for marine use of MRBMs, it is necessary to solve the problem with aerospace reconnaissance

The "Oreshnik" medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) is capable of completely changing its purpose and becoming a threat to powerful aircraft carriers at sea. However, this first requires solving several problems, according to military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.

According to him, the development of aerospace reconnaissance is necessary to guide an expensive missile accurately at a maneuvering mobile target in the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean.

The "Oreshnik" blocks should receive nuclear warheads, allowing it to attack an aircraft carrier strike group wholesale, since it will hardly be possible to achieve a direct hit anyway. Then, yes, a modified "Oreshnik" can turn into an "aircraft carrier killer", forcing them to stay thousands of kilometers away from the coast.

It should be recalled that the "Oreshnik" missile received a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle with individual guidance units that attack the target at speeds up to Mach 10. This makes the Russian MRBM a difficult target to intercept.

Chinese media suggested that the invulnerability of "Oreshnik" to electronic warfare is due to the use of Soviet tubes and microchips.
