The Indian Air Force has announced the longest interception of an aerial target in the history of the national air defense system. The S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system, purchased from Russia, was used for the launch.
The exercises took place on February 27 in the state of Rajasthan. The Air Force claims that the complex's radar detected a target at a distance of about 500 kilometers, after which the calculation identified the object and carried out the launch. The specific interception range is not specified.
In India, the Triumphs are used under the names "Sudarshan" and "Sudarshan Chakra". The complex provides long-range detection and interception of aerodynamic targets, including aircraft and cruise missiles.
The S-400 is a long-range system capable of detecting aircraft, drones, and missiles. The system is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.
Indian media reported that the republic intends to purchase five more regimental sets of Triumphs from Russia.
