Space Observation Center Opened by Russian Scientists in Antarctica

New scientific pavilion built at Progress Station

The construction of a new magnetometric pavilion has been completed at the Russian Progress Station in Antarctica. The facility was built during the seasonal work of the 71st Russian Antarctic Expedition.

The pavilion is designed for observing the Earth's magnetic field and monitoring space weather. A site with minimal magnetic interference was chosen for its location to ensure the most accurate measurements.

Only non-magnetic materials were used in the construction. Each sensor is installed on a separate foundation and pedestal, which helps to eliminate the influence of building vibrations and improve the accuracy of scientific data.

The new pavilion has an unusual aerodynamic shape. The black coating of the building helps to absorb solar heat and maintain a comfortable temperature inside the room.

Year-round observations will allow scientists to track changes in the Earth's magnetic field, as well as study how the solar wind interacts with the magnetosphere of our planet.
