42 thousand tons: Severstal supplied 90% of the steel structures for the new pellet complex in Cherepovets

Installation of beams, columns, and roofing panels is proceeding on schedule

Severstal Steel Solutions has shipped about 90% of the total volume of steel structures for the pellet roasting and oxidized iron ore pellet production complex (KTSPO) under construction at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant. The final delivery volume will total 42 thousand tons — beams, bracing columns, raised floors, roofing panels, and smokestacks. To fulfill the order, the capacities of several partner plants were mobilized, the company's press service reported.

Some of the structures have been treated with a fire-resistant coating at production facilities: applying the same coating at the installation site costs at least three times more. During the project implementation, the requested volume more than doubled, which required a prompt restructuring of logistics. According to the management of Severstal Steel Solutions, deliveries are proceeding on schedule.

The complex, with a capacity of 10 million tons of pellets per year, is being built to supply blast furnace production with its own raw materials and to retire a number of outdated units. According to the company's forecasts, launching the complex will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2 million tons per year and pollutant emissions by 96 thousand tons per year.
