Scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences Warned About the Most Powerful Solar Flares in 2026

The activity of the Sun may be accompanied by plasma ejections and magnetic storms on Earth

In 2026, 5 to 10 class X flares, the highest class, are expected, TASS was told by Sergey Bogachev, head of the solar astronomy laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Solar flares are classified according to the power of X-ray radiation: class A is the minimum, then B, C, M and X, where each subsequent letter means a tenfold increase in power. Class X flares are the most powerful and can be accompanied by solar plasma ejections. Reaching Earth, these clouds are capable of causing magnetic storms.

Flares of levels X and M on the Sun will continue until approximately 2028, inclusive.

Scientists continue to monitor solar activity for accurate forecasting of geomagnetic disturbances.
