A Strike on All Fronts: Engineers from Yekaterinburg Presented a Combined-Effect Weapon

The developed munition combines fragmentation, electromagnetic, and blinding effects

Specialists from Yekaterinburg have patented a new development in the field of destructive systems. The device is capable of simultaneously disabling electronics, blinding optical instruments, and inflicting physical damage on personnel.

The design is based on a casing with a main explosive charge. However, the key feature lies in additional modules built directly into the body of the munition.

A special coil is responsible for generating the electromagnetic pulse. It was placed inside the explosive material, closer to the front part of the casing, along the axial line. The coil has an open circuit and is enclosed in a cone. Upon detonation, it creates a field that burns out electronic components within the strike radius.

To enhance the effect, the engineers used a piezoelectric generator. The piezoelements were placed around the perimeter of the inner side of the casing. Importantly, the casing itself is made of a material permeable to electromagnetic waves and has special notches.

According to the authors, this combination of destructive factors makes it possible to accomplish several tasks with a single shot:

  • Physical destruction: casing fragments and the energy of the explosion strike ground targets and personnel.
  • Electronic warfare: the pulse disables drones, radio sets, and other electronics.
  • Optical neutralization: a powerful flash blinds video cameras, infrared sights, and damages human vision.
