"Contradicts security": expert commented on drone delivery of documents in Kaluga region

Unresolved legal issues were called a major problem for the launch of drone delivery

The commercialization of drones, including for cargo delivery, contradicts security in the regions of Russia. This opinion was expressed by Denis Fedutinov, a leading expert in the field of unmanned aviation.

Earlier it became known that in the Kaluga region from March 15 they will launch delivery of official documentation using a drone. Fedutinov was skeptical about this initiative.

Even before 2022, the use of UAVs for civilian purposes faced obstacles in the form of unresolved legal issues.

He also considers the problem to be "insufficient" reliability of drones, the slow process of coordinating flights and the cost of operating UAVs. At the same time, the expert agreed that "separate" experiments in the regions are possible.

About delivery in the Kaluga region

The initiators of the project in the Kaluga region stated that their UAV is equipped with the latest navigation system, which works even in electronic warfare conditions.

The region will use vertical take-off and landing drones (VTOL) of the aircraft type. Such UAVs do not need equipped runways. They are able to hover over a certain point and drop cargo.

These features are in demand in both civilian and military fields.

Modern drones can navigate the terrain using inertial navigation systems, astronavigation, and navigation based on the underlying surface. But, as Fedutinov emphasized, the most reliable are drones that use several sources of navigation data.
